Remove the battery before touching the collet or accessory. Check the accessory for cracks, bending, chips, looseness, or other damage. Never use an accessory merely because its shank appears to fit; its intended use, diameter, rated speed, and condition must also be suitable.

The video demonstrates the controls on a small block, but it does not show a complete workholding setup. Secure small workpieces before use. A hand-held piece can move, catch, or pull your hand toward the accessory.

Step-by-step: accessory setup and first contact

1. Match the accessory to the tool and material

Before installation, confirm four things: the accessory is designed for the operation, its shank fits the verified WT8801 collet, its dimensions are within the tool maker’s limits, and its rated speed is at least the tool’s verified maximum.

Then inspect it under good light. Do not use an accessory with a bent shank, damaged abrasive, missing label information, or signs of a drop or impact. If the accessory’s identity or rating cannot be confirmed, choose another one.

2. Remove the battery and put the switch in the stopped position

The WT8801 should not be able to start while your fingers or wrenches are near the collet. Move the top slide switch to the stopped position and remove the battery before loosening, inserting, tightening, adjusting, or removing an accessory.

Keep the tool on a stable bench with the collet pointing away from you and other people.

3. Loosen the collet nut with two wrenches

The video places one open-end wrench on the spindle flats and a second wrench on the collet nut. Hold the first wrench steady and turn the second to loosen the nut.

Use only correctly fitting wrenches. A loose or improvised wrench can round the flats or slip toward your hand. Loosen the nut only enough to accept the correct shank; do not dismantle the collet unless the supplied instructions call for it.

4. Insert the accessory to the documented depth

The video slides a mounted grinding point into the collet. Insert the correct shank straight, without forcing it. Follow the exact WT8801 and accessory instructions for insertion depth and maximum permitted overhang.

There is no universal exposed-shank measurement that should be borrowed from a different die grinder. Excessive overhang can increase bending and vibration. If the accessory will not seat as documented, remove it and recheck the shank and collet size rather than forcing the fit.

5. Tighten the collet securely

Keep one wrench on the spindle flats and tighten the collet nut with the second, as shown. The accessory should be held securely and remain straight.

Do not use the battery or motor to help tighten the collet. After removing the wrenches, rotate the accessory gently by hand and look for obvious misalignment. If it appears bent or off-center, remove it and inspect the complete setup.

6. Secure the workpiece and clear the area

Clamp or fixture a small workpiece so it cannot spin, tip, or travel when the accessory touches it. Position the clamp outside the planned tool path and make sure the accessory cannot contact the bench, vise, fasteners, or hidden hardware.

Consider what the operation will produce: chips, dust, sparks, sharp edges, or heat. Remove incompatible flammable materials, provide suitable ventilation or dust control, and keep other people out of the accessory’s path.

7. Install the verified battery

With the switch still stopped and both wrenches removed, install the correct battery for the exact WT8801 version. Confirm it is fully seated.

A battery shown in a demonstration video is not enough to establish compatibility. Use only the platform identified by the verified product page or supplied instructions for your exact tool.

8. Learn the slide switch before approaching the work

The top slide switch controls running and lock-on in the video. Practice its movement with the accessory clear of the work so you know how to stop the tool without changing your grip unexpectedly.

Keep the accessory pointed into a safe, open area. If you use the lock position, be prepared to release it immediately. Do not start the tool with the accessory touching the material.

9. Select a displayed level

The rear selector cycles through six numbered levels on the display. Start with a lower displayed level and adjust only within the instructions for the exact tool and accessory.

The display number is not itself an RPM specification. An accessory must be chosen against the WT8801’s documented maximum speed, not against an assumed conversion from display level.

10. Let the accessory reach speed before contact

The video starts the accessory away from the work and pauses before touching the sample. Hold the tool securely and let it reach a steady speed in a safe position.

Watch and feel for abnormal vibration or wobble. If either occurs, switch off immediately, wait for a complete stop, remove the battery, and inspect the accessory, shank, collet, insertion, and rated application. Do not try to correct a vibrating setup while it is running.

11. Bring the accessory to the work with control

Approach the secured workpiece gradually. Use the part of the accessory intended for contact and move in the direction specified by its maker. Do not force the tool, pry with the shank, or use the side of an accessory unless it is explicitly designed for side loading.

Take light passes and monitor heat, dust, accessory condition, and control. If the workpiece shifts, the accessory catches, the sound changes abruptly, or the tool becomes difficult to hold, move away from the work and stop.

12. Stop and wait before setting the tool down

Release the top switch from its run or lock position. Hold the tool away from the material until the accessory stops completely. A coasting accessory can catch a surface, damage the work, or move the tool across the bench.

Remove the battery before checking the accessory or changing the setup. Allow hot parts to cool, clean the area using a method appropriate for the dust or debris, and store accessories so their shanks and abrasive surfaces are protected.
