Step-by-step: setup and first pass

1. Inspect the tool, pad, and surface

With the battery removed, check the backing surface and pad. Do not use a pad that is torn, heavily contaminated, badly misshapen, or unable to attach securely. Make sure the surface is clean enough that grit will not be trapped under the pad and dragged across the finish.

Confirm that the selected pad and polishing product are appropriate for both the WT8634 and the work surface. A soft finishing pad and an aggressive correction pad can produce very different results even when fitted to the same tool.

2. Center the pad

The video shows an orange, wavy foam pad being aligned over the round backing surface and pressed into place. Take a moment to center it. An off-center pad can feel unbalanced and makes it harder to keep the tool controlled near an edge.

4. Apply the polishing product

The video spreads product across several areas of the pad rather than placing it in one large spot. Follow the surface-product maker’s directions for the amount and distribution. More product does not automatically mean more correction or a better finish; excess can sling, load the pad, or make residue harder to remove.

For a first pass, work on a small test area. If the surface or product instructions call for priming the pad, spreading product before starting, or using a particular working section size, follow those directions.

5. Turn on the control area

The rear of the WT8634 has a round power control beside the display. The video presses this control before selecting a speed. Keep both hands clear of the pad while the tool is powered.

If the display does not respond, stop and check that the slide switch is off and the battery is fully seated. Do not keep pressing controls while holding the pad against the work.

6. Choose a displayed speed level

The video uses the rear selector to cycle through six numbered display levels. Start with a lower displayed level while you learn how the pad and product behave. Move higher only when the tool, pad, surface, and product instructions support it.

The displayed level is a control setting, not a published revolutions-per-minute value. Do not convert the number into a speed specification unless the exact WT8634 documentation provides that relationship.

7. Start the pad with the top slide switch

Place the pad flat on the work surface unless the supplied instructions direct a different starting method. The video presses the rear area of the top slide switch and moves it forward to keep the pad running.

Use a balanced grip and be ready for the tool’s movement as the pad starts. If the tool vibrates sharply, the pad shifts, or the attachment feels unstable, stop immediately, remove the battery, and inspect the setup.

8. Make a controlled first pass

The demonstration keeps the pad face flat and moves it across a small flat panel in overlapping passes—first in one direction and then across that pattern. This crosshatch approach makes coverage easier to see and discourages staying in one spot.

Keep the tool moving with light, controlled pressure. Let the pad and product do the work. Pay extra attention near edges, raised body lines, corners, trim, and damaged areas, where the pad may not remain flat and the finish may respond differently.

Check the surface and pad regularly. Stop if the surface becomes unexpectedly hot, the product dries contrary to its directions, the pad loads with debris, or the tool becomes difficult to control.

9. Stop the tool before lifting or setting it down
