The CBN01 video demonstrates the tool’s main setup sequence in less than a minute: open the magazine, load the selected fastener strip in the correct track, close the magazine, choose a firing mode, adjust the drive-depth wheel, press the workpiece contact fully against the material, and fire. Before you begin

Prepare the tool and work area with the battery removed:

  • The CBN01 and the instructions supplied with the exact tool
  • One undamaged strip of compatible brads for the job
  • A clean scrap made from the same material and thickness as the project
  • A stable work surface, plus clamps when the workpiece cannot stay secure by itself
  • Safety glasses with side protection; add hearing protection and any other protection required by the tool, fastener, material, or work area
  • Good lighting and a clear space with no one beside or behind the firing path

Inspect the housing, magazine, nose, trigger, workpiece contact, and depth wheel. Do not use the nailer if a control sticks, a guard or contact is damaged, hardware is loose, or the tool behaves differently from its instructions. Never tape, tie back, remove, or bypass the trigger or workpiece-contact mechanism.

Check the work before firing. Know what is behind the surface, including people, wiring, plumbing, metal hardware, and finished faces. Avoid firing toward your body, another person, an unsupported edge, a knot, or an area where the fastener could pass through or deflect.

Step-by-step: load, set, and make a test fastening

1. Confirm the fastener before it enters the tool

Keep the battery out. Compare the fastener packaging with the accepted type, gauge, length range, collation, and crown dimensions in the instructions for your exact CBN01. A strip that fits into part of the magazine is not automatically approved for the tool.

Look along the strip. Set aside fasteners that are bent, rusty, loosely collated, contaminated with debris, or different from the rest of the strip. Mixing fastener profiles or loading an unknown strip can lead to poor feeding or a jam.

The video demonstrates a straight brad strip and a separate staple strip. Their loading paths are different. Select one compatible fastener type for the task and follow the matching path; do not use the appearance of the demonstration strips as a substitute for the supplied fastener chart.

2. Open the magazine

Point the nose away from yourself and everyone else. With your finger outside the trigger area, operate the rear magazine control and draw the magazine open as shown in the video.

Check the open channel for a leftover strip, bent fastener, or debris before adding anything. If a fastener is lodged toward the nose, stop and use the jam-clearing sequence below instead of pushing a new strip against it.

3. Load the selected strip in its correct path

For the straight brad strip, the video places the strip against the left side of the magazine channel. Keep the strip aligned and fully inside the guide; do not force it if it sits crooked or stops short.

For the separate staple demonstration, the strip is positioned against the right side and its legs enter the labeled slot near the front of the magazine. Use this second path only when the exact CBN01 instructions approve the staple profile in hand.

Whichever path you use, keep hands away from the nose opening and make sure the fastener points face the intended discharge direction. Do not load two different strip types together.

4. Close and check the magazine

Return the magazine to its closed position until its control is fully seated. Do not slam it or hold the trigger while closing it. A strip that shifts, protrudes, or keeps the magazine from closing cleanly needs to be removed and checked.

Gently confirm that the magazine is latched. Keep the nose pointed in a safe direction. If the magazine opens by itself or does not latch normally, do not power the tool.

5. Set the drive depth on scrap

The video turns the knurled wheel beside the nose and shows that shortening the nose distance increases the demonstrated drive depth. Make small adjustments rather than turning the control from one end of its travel to the other.

Set an initial position while the battery is still removed. Use scrap from the same material and thickness as the project because density, grain, fastener length, and stacked material can all change the result. The goal is a secure fastening without an unnecessarily deep mark or a fastener left too proud for the intended finish.

If the test is too shallow or too deep, remove the battery before touching the depth control again. Repeat the scrap test after each adjustment.

6. Install the correct, verified battery

Keep your finger off the trigger and the nose away from the work. Attach only the battery identified for the exact CBN01 in its current product documentation. Push it fully into place using the method in the supplied instructions.

A battery seen in a demonstration does not prove electrical, mechanical, or safety compatibility. Do not use the video’s battery shape, color, or label to select a pack.

7. Select a firing mode deliberately

The video identifies two indicator behaviors: a flashing state for contact firing and a steady state for single firing. Check the tool’s own label and instructions before relying on an indicator, because manufacturer terms and trigger behavior can differ.

For setup and careful placement, select the most restrictive single-fire mode described in the CBN01 instructions. Contact actuation can discharge a fastener when the trigger is held and the workpiece contact is pressed, increasing the chance of an unintended shot if the nose bumps a surface. Do not learn contact firing on the finished project.

After selecting a mode, keep the tool pointed away from people and keep your finger outside the trigger until the nose is positioned for the test fastening.

8. Position the test piece and your hands

Secure the scrap on a stable surface. Keep your free hand out of the line of fire and away from the area behind and beside the fastening point. A fastener can pass through thin stock, follow grain, deflect from a knot or hidden metal, or exit an edge.

Place the nose squarely on a flat area with enough material around the fastening point. Do not test at an edge, in a knot, or over hidden hardware. Keep your face and body away from the discharge path.

9. Make one controlled test fastening

The video shows the workpiece contact being pressed fully against the wood before the trigger is operated. Use the exact firing order stated for the selected mode in the CBN01 instructions. Maintain a balanced grip, keep the nose square, and fire only one test fastener.

Allow the tool to move naturally after discharge. Do not press your other hand on top of the tool or keep the trigger squeezed while lifting or repositioning it. Remove your finger from the trigger as soon as the fastening is complete.

Inspect the scrap from both sides. Confirm that the fastener did not break through, bend out of an edge, or leave a result that calls for a depth adjustment or different fastener.

10. Continue with the same controlled setup

Move to the project only after the scrap result is acceptable. Recheck what is behind each firing point, especially near edges, corners, trim returns, wiring routes, plumbing, and metal brackets. Clamp small parts instead of holding them close to the nose.

Stop if the sound or recoil changes, the magazine stops feeding, the driver marks the surface without placing a fastener, the contact does not move freely, or the tool becomes unusually hot. Remove the battery before inspecting the fastener strip, depth control, nose, or magazine.

11. Unload before storage or a setup change

Remove your finger from the trigger, point the tool in a safe direction, and remove the battery. Open the magazine and remove the fastener strip using the supplied instructions. Check that no loose fastener remains in the channel or nose.

Close the empty magazine and store the nailer and battery as their instructions direct, away from children and unauthorized users. Do not leave a powered or loaded nailer unattended.

If a fastener jams

The video shows a hinged cover above the nose opening and a bent fastener being removed. Before following that visible access sequence, make the tool unable to fire:

  1. Keep the nose pointed away from yourself and others. Remove your finger from the trigger.
  2. Remove the battery completely.
  3. Open the magazine and remove the remaining fastener strip.
  4. Follow the CBN01 instructions to release the hinged nose cover. Do not pry or force it.
  5. Remove the accessible jammed fastener without placing fingers in the firing path. Use only the method and hand tool specified by the CBN01 instructions.
  6. Inspect the channel, driver area, fastener strip, and cover. If the fastener will not come free with light effort, the driver appears damaged, or the cover will not close normally, stop and contact Product Support.
  7. Close and latch the cover, then reload with a verified fastener strip.
  8. Make a new test fastening on scrap before returning to the project.

Never clear a jam with the battery installed. Do not squeeze the trigger, press the workpiece contact by hand, look into the nose, or point the tool toward yourself while troubleshooting.

Which brads fit the CBN01?

Use the gauge, length range, collation, and material listed in the instructions supplied with your exact CBN01. The demonstration shows how a strip enters the magazine, but it does not establish every compatible length. A strip that looks similar or slides into the channel may still be wrong.

Which firing mode should I use?

Use the most restrictive single-fire mode described in the tool’s instructions for a first setup and careful placement. The video labels a steady indicator as single firing and a flashing indicator as contact firing. Why is the brad standing proud or sinking too far?
